Ponting’s Timber & Hardware is a family-owned company, established in 1923 by two brothers Walter and Len Ponting. They were committed to providing outstanding service and a wide variety of products for builders and farmers in the region.
Len Ponting was working at Dawkins & Son Ironmongers before he and his brother Walter purchased the business. They moved to the current site soon after and renamed the company Ponting Brothers.
By 1944 all of Walter’s and Len’s children were working in the store.
In 1954 the business was incorporated.
In 1957 plans were drawn up to move into a larger space to increase the range of products available to customers.
In 1967 after the deaths of Len and Walter (Snr), James, Alex and Walter (Jnr), Walter (Snrs) sons took over the buisiness.
Over the next 14 years, the three brothers continued to grow the business and product offering, adding the timber yard and a machining shed.
The current directors of the company are Pamela Madner (right) and Walter John Ponting (left), Walter’s two surviving children, and Michael Miller (center), Walter’s son-in-law.
John and Pam continue to work in the business – John in the Timber yard serving customers and Pam working closely with Ashley Nelson and Lisa Bartlett the Operations and Finance managers.
The business continues today because of our dedicated and experienced staff and the support of our loyal customers in the community. This year we are celebrating 100 years in business in 2023.
It is our goal to continue to supply the region with the highest quality products and exceptional service. Our senior staff are committed to continuing the values on which the company was founded.
